The Colony of Mercy is Biblical in foundation and the goal is spiritual transformation which results in freedom from the bondage of addictions.  Spiritual transformation is accomplished by addressing the deeper heart issues with biblical truth leading to full surrender.  No secular program or exercise of self control will long sustain an individual in an addiction-free condition that results in a life of freedom, love, joy, and everlasting peace.  One can only be liberated through the all-sufficient blood of Jesus Christ and acceptance of the new life which only He offers.  The biblical principle which this transformation demonstrates can be found in 2 Corinthians 5:17:  “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation, old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

This curriculum was developed for use in five sessions within each of the sixteen lessons (M-F for 16 weeks).  Each of the 16 lessons are in separate attachments below and include:  Instructor's powerpoint, Instructor's lesson / outline, Student's lesson / outline, and related questions for discussion.  The large button "VCLC Complete Overview & Supplemental Package" below contains the syllabus, introduction / overview, information about salvation and it's relationship to addiction, memory verses for each lesson, a journal page for the memory verses, and a special supplement designed for spouses to work out together to help couples heal and find victory as well.

Although the curriculum was designed in a format for use in this residential program, it is also very helpful to many people in other types of programs, and in various settings.  As a result, many have incorporated it into ministry settings whether small groups, group counseling, in-treatment programs, inner city missions, churches, and so on.  Please feel free to read, use, and teach others using this curriculum, and contact us for any questions or further assistance.

The Curriculum was developed by Jim Freed for the 'Colony of Mercy', a Christ-centered, Bible-based residential addiction recovery program where Jim served for over twenty years.
